December 30, 2024 — We know your pet’s nutrition and wellbeing is of the utmost importance to you. It is also a top priority for us, as is the wellbeing of the environment. We go to great lengths to ensure that all of our products are safe.

In addressing the issue of bird flu, one thing to keep in mind is that the FDA now inspects for bird flu, where in the past the USDA and the chicken growers were responsible for those inspections. So, while there may not necessarily be more cases, there are more being reported. Bird flu has been around for a long time.

We have received numerous questions about the bird flu and want to give you some insight to our safety protocols. We at Shine have never, and would never, use factory farmed animals living in conditions which lend themselves to the spread of disease. From day one, we have been committed to safe, nutritionally superior foods from impeccable sources to ensure the safety and quality of every product that leaves our kitchen.

Shine has always sourced our ingredients from organic and humanely raised certified growers. Our chicken, turkey, and beef suppliers have never been impacted by the bird flu. The animals are processed in USDA processing plants and are tested before they go out into the market. All of our ingredients are human grade and raised in healthy environments. Shine does salmonella and e-coli testing on all our poultry before it becomes available to our customers.

🐕 The dog food poultry products that Shine offers, gently cooked turkey, gently cooked chicken and gently cooked duck, are baked to an internal temperature of 165°. This is a temperature that preserves nutrients while ensuring the destruction of any pathogens.

Our beef also comes from organic certified regenerative pasture raised beef cows. We do not use dairy cows in our products, which have been the most impacted by bird flu. Our beef recipes for dogs come in raw and gently cooked recipes, both of which are always available.

🐈 The cat food poultry products that Shine offers are raw chicken and raw turkey. Cats are obligate carnivores, and do not thrive as hardily on cooked or processed food. This is why feline fresh food is raw. If you have any concerns about our turkey and chicken cat food, it’s fine to sauté it in a pan for a few minutes before serving.

Our rabbit and venison feline recipes are very popular and would be a fine alternative for customers who would prefer to avoid poultry altogether.

With 10 proteins to choose from in gently cooked and/or raw recipes, all made with the same organic certified healthy ingredients, we will be glad to help you find options for your pet with which you feel comfortable.

We at Shine appreciate the privilege of being part of the nutrition program for your pets and are here to answer questions anytime. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
